Learning support that works around you

Every student deserves help that makes difficult ideas easier to understand. But finding that help can mean juggling timetables, travelling to lessons or stretching a family budget. We're building Abacus to make personalized learning support more accessible, flexible and affordable.

Our AI tutor is being designed to work through problems with you, not simply hand you an answer. Using your own class materials, it will ask questions, explain the reasoning and guide you through the next step. The goal is support you can return to on your schedule, without arranging a tutor appointment, travelling or joining a camera call.

Personal to your learning

Students need different explanations at different moments. Our goal is a tutor you can shape around your preferred pace and level of detail, with guidance that adapts to your questions, attempts and feedback. The focus is what you're learning and where you need help, not a one-size-fits-all lesson.

Quality matters as much as convenience

Our ambition is to bring the attention and thoughtful guidance of good one-to-one tutoring into a flexible AI learning experience. Clear explanations, source-grounded teaching, quality evaluation and student feedback are central to the approach we're developing.

Human tutoring remains an optional service for students who want it. Abacus's main goal is to make guided AI learning support easier to reach when students need it.

Meet the founder

Abacus is being built by Utsa Poddar, a tutor with experience at Varsity Tutors and Tutor Doctor. His teaching approach uses questions and step-by-step problem-solving to help students work through mathematics, physics and science.

Utsa holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Calgary, builds AI and data systems, and is pursuing an MS in Data Science at the University of Colorado Boulder.

He is bringing those backgrounds together in Abacus: guided AI tutoring and lecturing built around Canadian high-school students' own class materials, with human tutoring as an optional service.
